What should you eat? See what the USDA thinks.

The USDA has gotten rid of its old food pyramid – that’s a good thing.  Why?  Check out the bottom of the old pyramid.

This is where they suggested we get the bulk of our calories from:  all things grain related such as breads, cereals, pasta, rice, muffin, bagels, etc.   In other words, carbohydrates that break down to sugar (glucose) very rapidly.

This is why we have epidemics of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, etc.

So what did the USDA do?

They changed the pyramid to a plate:
